Question about application deadlines?

When a college states their application deadline as January 1st, does this mean that you have until January 1st to submit your application with your essay but transcripts and test scores can be sent later, or is January 1st the deadline for everything including the application, test scores, transcripts, etc.?

I know that when I applied to the University of Florida you were only obliged to submit your application by November 1st but test scores and transcripts could be sent later. On the other hand, when I applied to Florida State University the deadline is January 2nd for all of your materials to be sent in.

I'm kind of nervous as I am applying to a few colleges out of state with a deadline of January 1st and January 15th and was wondering if I had to submit only my application without other materials or if I had to submit a "complete" application with all of the materials?

Thank you :)

Your things (essays, forms, fees) need to be postmarked by the deadline (e.g. Jan 1) Your transcript and test scores should be sent as close to the deadline as possible, but colleges tend to give more leeway for the supporting documents. Also, many colleges will email you around February or so letting you know if anything is missing, and give you a chance to resubmit documents.

CDN dancer pretty much nailed it

The essays, forms, and fees are no problem for me...I'm just worried about my test scores reaching there on time since I can overnight my transcript and letters of recommendation. I just now decided to go ahead and apply to a few out of state schools and was just worried because they are not listed as schools to receive my test scores (December 1st was my first time taking the SAT's) so I'm not sure how that will play out...

Don't worry, many (if not all?) schools accept scores from the December test date; some even allow January scores if you are retaking a test.

Best of luck with your applications!

Thank you :)
