I applied to LSA but wrote my why Michigan essay about CoE because I though that’s where I applied to. I emailed the university about it and haven’t heard back yet. My question is: Would writing my essay about the wrong college at Michigan negatively affect my application? I know the easy thing to do is to switch my intended major, but I have a better shot at getting into LSA. Any thoughts? I know this is my fault and the university doesn’t have to help me, either.
Bump
I honestly wouldn’t worry about it too much. It’s possible to start at LSA and transfer to CoE…you just need to get good grades in certain classes and apply before you go over 55 credits. http://www.engin.umich.edu/college/admissions/undergrad/cross-campus/requirements Your essays are about your hopes. You don’t know until you get there how it’ll all work out. Nothing wrong with hoping to get the grades for engineering while applying to LSA. In fact, it’s a pretty good plan.
@MaryGJ I emailed ecredentials and asked to change my desired major. I then realized that that would ruin my chances of admission, so I emailed again asking if the essay would ruin my app, and if not, ignore my first email. Should I email for a third time and say ignore my last 2? Or should I not harass admissions and wait for a response?
LOL…you’re driving yourself nuts, aren’t you? Don’t mean to laugh, I feel for you. I know it’s a big deal right now and you’re trying so hard to do exactly the right thing. Personally? I’d let it ride and see if they write back. If they don’t, no big deal. If they do, it will probably be to tell you that you can always try to transfer into CoE from LSA if you’ve got the grades for it. I am sure you’re not the only person writing them frantic emails, I bet they’re swamped. Don’t worry…leaving things as is…I strongly feel that your chances have not been hurt.
@MaryGJ yeah it’s all I’m thinking about haha. Thanks for helping
Per another thread, I thought you were going to try switching to RD?
@MedSciBud That was the plan if I had to re-write the essay. Now I’m just hoping to get in EA for LSA
@MaryGJ update: regional admissions counselor replied and told me to send in my new, corrected essay for LSA
@as1799 - congrats. That must be a good relief
