UMD has received everything except the teacher recommendation. Are they gonna assume I'm not sending one and base their decision on what they received or are they gonna wait till the deadline (after they've received the rec) and then make the decision?

MD does not have rolling admissions...unless it changed from ly, thus they are not going to give you an answer any earlier than the person who waited to the last day to submit. It is your responsibility to get the rec...you don't than the application is not complete and you will not be accepted.

I've asked my teacher for the rec, he just hasn't submitted it yet (due date is Dec. 1).

From what I understand, they'll wait 'till the deadline before they look at your file.

It is a fixed deadline...nobody is reviewed earlier. Also last yr there were several kids who did not have the info such as recs in by Dec 1 they did not find out until RD in April...so make sure that app is complete

so, recs are required and the deadline is Dec 1? I looked at UMD website but there wasn't a true deadline listed and I was a little confused about if recs were required and how many.

Last year the deadline was Dec 1..and recs were required. The Dec 1 is ED...there is a second deadline to find out in April

For the early Dec 1 deadline, also keep in mind that the cut-off for sending Part I of the application (some basic info, NOT difficult to fill out) is due NOV 1.

That's the priority deadline, not ED; UMD doesn't have ED/EA.

we only need one teacher rec, right?

Yes, at least one teacher rec required, they'll read two though.
Priority consideration on 12/1/08, 1/20/2009 is freshman deadline.
