question about applying as an international applicant

Hi,

I am neither a citizen nor a permanent resident (greencard-holder) of the United States, which makes me an international applicant. I am from Korea but have been going to American schools in Virginia for 8 years now.

Does this mean that I need to take the TOEFL to apply even though I have studied United States for 8 years.

I have already taken the SAT and the SAT2s.

I am looking to apply to Pomona College, NYU, UC Irvine, Davies, Virginia Tech, Claremont McKenna, and George Mason.

i would also like to ask if being an international applicant puts you at a disadvantage in terms of admission...?

Unless otherwise stated the schools will probably waive their Toefl-requirement for anyone who completed 4 years of secondary school in the united states. So you're fine in that aspect.

You need to check with each college/university that you apply to about their specific TOEFL requirement.

As to whether being international will be an advantage or a disadvantage, that will depend on the individual college/university. It certainly will affect your access to financial aid, and consequently will affect your admissions chances at any colleges/universities that have need-aware policies for international students.
