If I was denied transfer admission after just 1 semester of college, and then applied again as a junior transfer, does the fact that I got denied after 1 semester hurt my chances at all? Do schools look down upon that detail about an applicant?

I doubt it. If you show that you improved academically in the 3 semesters since you were rejected it might even help out your cause a little. Plus it shows that you really would like to attend the school, given you have a valid reason for transferring in the first place. I know my scenario is a little different but I was waitlisted at the school I attend now for freshman admission and was accepted after only a summer session and one semester at college. I also thought I was going to get rejected again for the same reasons.

That's what I thought, but when I read and hear people ask transfer applicants if they have applied previously to the school they wish to attend, it led me to believe it is a factor

it definitely will not hurt your chances---as long as you have become a more compelling applicant (increased grades)
