i really want to go to uchicago ever since i realized what a great school it is...im on their mailing list, ive called the office to find out about my intended major, and ive just shown interest overall...the question i have is whether it would be wrong to apply to another school early decision where i want to go just as much and apply to chicago early action since it is non-restrictive...its not so much security but more that i want to go to both and why not increase my chances of getting into at least one?

Nothing wrong with it; go ahead!

Is the other school non-committal? Can you back out of it if you choose to go to Chicago later on?

It depends on the school, really. Some schools allow you to apply early to other schools and other schools don't. I suggest you read the instructions for the school's application over again and see what they have to say.

As long as your school isn't Yale or Stanford, I believe you can apply to an ED and EA. This was not the case for Princeton, but since you are a junior, you don't have to worry about that.

umm its cornell actually

no my friend...you are golden

why do we say "you are golden".

where did it come from?
