There's something that I wanted to clarify for the bio major requirements: I'm allowed to use my AP credits in subjects like Calculus and Statistics, right? It's just AP Bio that's not good for anything? Because I thought at first that I would have to take Calc 1 and 2...but if you have good enough AP scores, can you get by without taking math in college at all? (I'll probably end up taking at least one calc, but I just wanted to make sure). Thanks!

that’s correct.

Would you recommend taking math, even if I have AP credit?

difficult to say.
if you are applying to medical school you should see what most of their math requirements look like. I am not familiar with that.
if you have any idea what kind of program of study you’re hoping to do, you should check out the courses you’re interested in (here: [Courses of Study 2010-2011](http://courses.cuinfo.cornell.edu/)) and see what the math prerequisites look like. I do not think that I have yet taken any biology courses that require more than a semester of calculus (or AP credit) but there could be some out there. if you have a minor in mind you might check out the prerequisites there also.

I personally found the calculus at Cornell quite a bit more difficult than in high school, where I took calc AB and got a 5 without any trouble. some people probably do fine here, and I’m sure experiences vary by section and TA also. if I had to make a ruling one way or the other, I would recommend not taking it, but I don’t think that’s the official word from any advisors or offices here on campus.

You need 2 semesters of Math. AP works for one or two, depending on how much you have.

I got a 5 on AB in high school and took Cal 2 here at Cornell. I got worked over but made out alright with a B-. Not that bad.

The only thing Bio majors can’t use AP credits for is AP Bio. They just put that into effect this year.

if ur applying to med school its a decent idea to take a semester of calc 2 and stats to cover your bases. i took AB and BC in HS and got a 5 on both and am taking calc I here (yeah, i know, the typical premed). it is a little more challenging than HS but not that bad. i dont know about calc 2 but in calc 1 the class is curved so 30% get A-s or above.

I’m wondering if you can take Cal 1 after Cal 2…

I mean it would be obvious to med/grad schools I was only padding my GPA but still… I could use the pad lol
