I’m currently shopping around for a laptop for college, and one of the biggest factors in my mind is battery life. I remember when I did a college visit at Amherst they said almost all their lecture halls have an electrical socket right by each seat so students can plug their laptops in during class. Is this true for Brown as well, in which case a 3-4 hour battery life would be tolerable, or not, in which case I should probably find one that could last through two classes?

I remember visiting a classroom on my tour and seeing sockets for laptops. So, yes, they have them, but I cannot guarantee if they are in every single classroom.

It depends on the classroom, some buildings have more plugs than others... usually if you need to sit by an outlet people are pretty accommodating. My battery is kind of worn down and only lasts 1-2 hours but I get by fine, any sort of MacBook with a 3+ hour life should work out fine.

It's a hit or miss based on classroom. Usually you need to sit off to the side or in the very front or in the very back, so if you're someone who likes to sit in the middle then you need a better battery life.

Yeah some classrooms have it, some don't. Rarely will you need a laptop for 3-4 hrs and not be near an outlet somewhere in between...

You do realize the longest classes at Brown other than labs (where you won't want a laptop) is 2hrs 20mins at any time.

Even taking two 1hr 20min classes in a row, it's unlikely both will need your laptop and unlikely that neither will have seats with or near outlets.

Considering the huge variation between age of classroom space, no guarantees anywhere.
