Hi, I'm a entering freshman for 2007 Fall Term.
I just wanted to ask a quick question about campus housing.
I haven't started my housing application yet since i paid my deposit last week and got housing info. mail today.
Right now, I leaning towards a double in either Mary Markley Hall or Bursley Hall. I got admitted to College of Engineering, so I'm assuming i'll have most of my classes in the North Campus - a huge plus for Bursley. Mary Markley's double, however, looks better to me (according to the virtual tour / didn't have a chance to visit).

So..here is the real question. Is Mary Markley residence hall within walking distance to North Campus? Is so, how long does it usually take to get there?

Any answers, or even suggestions for other residence halls would be much appreciated..thanx :)

In your freshman year , for Engineering - you'll have all your classes on Central Campus save one. So go for the Central/Hill area. You cant choose Markley hall as option as such.

Theres a bus service within Central and North. 5 minutes by bus.

Im not an Engineering major myself but thats what I've read on this forum. Freshmen year - engineering classes are on Central
Ill check the thread and give you the link in a minute.

Not necessarily the engineering core classes, but you have to do stuff like chemistry/math/physics and other cognate courses from LSA. I think for the common intro engin courses they have lectures/discussions both on north campus and central campus.

Also, pretty sure the rooms are a lot nicer at Bursley than at Markley.

I've heard that Markley's rooms are probably as big as my closet in Martha Cook. One of my friends said the rooms are so small that you absolutely have to bunk the beds to make space.

As a freshman engineer, all of your classes save Engin 100 and 101 will be on Central Campus. Markley does have small rooms, but it is by far the most social dorm as it is all freshmen.

Also, the bus to North Campus (North Commuter) stops right outside of Markley.

I lived in Markley, will be an engineer next year, my roommate was an engineer, Markley is the way to go. When you are coming home from a party at 2:30 am in January and its 5 degrees, you will be glad that you can just walk back to your room rather than having to call a cab or wait for a bus that might not come.
