question about classes in college...

lets say you decide to choose an engineering major...

you don't only take engineering classes freshmen/sophomore year right?

you take a lot of engineering but still have to take general classes like english, history, biology, etc. right?

Cause i may decide to apply to pharmacy school, which needs bio, chem, etc...
I want engineering as a back-up...

You will take some engineering courses in the sophomore year, like electric circuits. In your freshman year, maybe you will take one or two introduction engineering courses to help you familiarize with engineering.

You have to take general classes as well.

ok so if i choose engineering as a major at UT Austin, I won’t actually be in the cockrell school of engineering till my junior year?

Being in the engineering school doesn’t mean you’re ONLY taking engineering courses. Most students take a humanities/social science course every semester, including junior and senior years. During your freshman and sophomore years, people tend to take the humanities/social science courses and pure science courses. And if a course you need for pharmacy school isn’t in your curriculum, you can always take it as an elective.

You won’t really have space to schedule classes like bio unless you have AP credits and/or have taken summer classes. The engineering requirements are very rigid and it doesn’t include a lot of space for elective credit. If you major in BioE/Biomedical or chemical, then it’s doable.

If you’re declared as an engineering major, then I assume that you’re already in the school of engineering.
