I took Spanish I in middle school, Spanish II in 9th, and Spanish III in 10th grade.

I dropped the class for my junior year (bad advice from counselor) to take some AP Chemistry.

However, as I look at some colleges’ “recommendation schedule”, I see that many of them “recommend” 3, if not 4 years (they say something like “3-4 years in high school”)

So I have a couple of questions here.

Right now, how many years do I have? Is it the level that counts or the years in high school (because I the wording says “high school”, but I always thought it was the level)?

Does anybody have any knowledge of this?

Also, if I take Spanish IV next year (after taking a year off), do you think colleges will mind that year in between where I never took a language class.

Lets say someone that did Spanish I, II, III, IV in 8th,9th,10th,11th grade (then quit)
And I did Spanish I, II, III, IV in 8th, 9th, 10th, and 12th grade

Will they weight these two candidates the same? Do they care about the extra year off inbetween? Thanks
