if two different universities have the exact same essay question, can I just write the essay and turn it in to both universites or do I have to write 2 different essays? thanks...

nope. in fact, i reccomend using the same one (or slightly tweaking/modifying one). :)

makesure they are EXACTLYthes ame

I've heard your shouldn't have the same essays because colleges will find out and think you don't care about their college enough to write an essay about them, but I really don't know how they could possibly find out.

Assuming you do send the same essay, just make sure your essays say the right colleges. You don't want an app to Michigan to say "And that's why I want to go to Ohio State..."

Of course you can tweak essays to fit specifically, but many posters here have said their kids got multiple acceptances with essentially the same essay.

i dont understand why u wud write multilple essays for the same topic..... it is like when u send the common app ...u are actually sending the same essay to tens of colleges..which is absolutely cool....

In other cases .. unless obviously it says to a stanfor adcomm...""I really wanna go to Cornell because....."'"
That u can tweak...... what makes u think u wont be serious enough if their is not a unique essay. no adcomm would want anyways to see whther the essay has been submitted elsewhere.....

Using the same essay is fine if the spirit of your essay fits with the feel of the school. If you are using the same essay for Reed and the U.S. Military Academy (I'm being extreme but you get my drift) there is something wrong. If you are applying to similar schools, like Bowdoin and Bates, then I can see if you recycle essays.
