Do colleges appreciate a sense of humor? I'm sort of a sarcastic/dry-witted person...and I'm not going to change my personality for adcoms, but what do you think?

Also, one of my essays is on a sort of depressing subject, but I still inserted one joke type thing in there. As long as it doesn't seem forced, it's okay right?

I also have a dry/sarcastic sense of humor, but I usually try to be very direct and straightforward in writing. I've learned from experience that it is sometimes unwise to be my sarcastic self. I'm pretty sure half of my math class from last year is convinced that I'm some sort of rabidly anti-gambling nut.

In person, you can tell if people are misunderstanding you and taking your sarcasm seriously and misunderstanding your meaning. In writing, you can't do that. Your dry jokes, which those who know you could easily identify as such, might be taken seriously by the person reading your apps and give them the wrong impression. In my essays, I tried to be direct and straightforward. Apparently, that approach worked for all of my colleges.

Catfish, if you don't mind me asking, where did you apply?

Okay, what if I have a sense of humor, but it's not dry and sarcastic, so that they get the joke? haha I REALLY want to give it more personality
