Question about colleges and weighting honors classes?

Yeseterday my friend told me he was reading a bit about my top school and he said they award weighted credit to honors, AP, IB.... I was shocked because although his school weights their honors, my school never has! I took several honors classes, and if they weight it than my GPA bumps up from 3.87 to 4.05, and that is just last 9th-11th. What I'm worried about is if they convert my GPA from what is says on my transcript, to their system.

Heres a quote directly from their website so you can see it for yourself:
"College prep GPA Calculated by Cal Poly for 9th -11th grade coursework designated on the application (with honors points granted for courses designated as "honors," “advanced placement" or "international baccalaureate" on a high school transcript, for up to eight semesters)."

This is literaly overwhelming and I'm so scared that my GPA might not be properly converted to over a 4.0, they will convert it to their own standards right?

Also, when it says 9th-11th grade GPA, does that mean my senior GPA isn't even considered or what?

Don’t panic about this one. Colleges and universities are fully aware that different high schools have different policies about weighted and unweighted grades. It is one of the pieces of information that is included in the high school’s profile that the guidance counselor sends. Each college and university will re-weight, un-weight, re-average, etc. the transcripts it receives in a way that makes sense for their own admissions staff.

When the college says that they are considering your 9th - 11th grade GPA, it means that your 9th grade grades count. Some places don’t consider 9th grade grades. Your senior GPA is hard for colleges and universities to assess, because you don’t have much to show yet for your work this year - especially if you apply during your first semester. That is why they will ask for a mid-year report (at the end of your first semester or trimester), and why they require a final copy of your transcript after you graduate next May or June. Keep your grades up this last year, because even if senior grades don’t seem to count so much for admission, bad grades can cause your acceptance to be rescinded in the spring!

Ok cool. One question though, I’ve been told a couple times that when you apply using early decision, which is what I plan on doing, and are accepted before the second semester of senior year, you only have to mantain like a C average to attend the school. Is this true?

Each institution sets its own policies about what kind of grade drop is too much of a grade drop. Unless you know specific details (as in you personally got the information from the Director of Admissions, and then verified it with every single member of the Admissions staff) for a particular institution, it would not be smart to try to test that theory. Plan to keep your grades up.

Yeah I completely agree on that one. I don’t know the actual system they have in place, and I would hate to screw up something so crucial that will affect the rest of my life.
