Hello I just wanted to ask a question about recruiting at Columbia. Do the top Investment Banks on Wall Street recruit at Columbia. If so which banks do and approxiamately how many candidates do the take from Columbia. Any information would be much appreciated.
Thank You.

Of course the top i-banks recruit at Columbia--mainly at the business school, however. As far as numbers go: not as much as HYP, but still certainly respectable.

How about undergraduate for analyst positions?

Gatsby: So.....those top firms do recruit more actively at HYP than at Columbia?

There is plenty of recruitment at Columbia. Probably not as much as Penn or Yale, but still enough.

To answer the second question: I know 2 people who were highered straight into VP or analyst positions, but they were both GS students who already had a lot of i-banking experience. For all I know, it could be much more common.

the financial engineering program at columbia probably gets recruited as much as the economics (traditional business) majors

I'm pretty sure you'll have to serve your time as an analyst either way though (analyst is like a better version of med-school residency from what I hear)

I always thought Columbia might have more access to top firms just because of its location in NYC. I got into Y early....but was considering COlumbia for the business opportunities. However, soxNlions mentioned that COlumbia probably doesn't get as much recruitment as Yale.....does anyone else have stories/info about this? Thanks!

You will be finne. Columbia is an excellent school and top firms love recruiting from there. Do well in school and you will have a great chance at a job.
GoodLuck

(if you go to a top notch school and do well you stand a good chance of land SOME IB job..albeit not guaranteed at Goldman or Morgan, but as long as people are willing to be excel whores then there will be demand for them.)
