I'm taking Computer Science AP next year to fulfill my district’s technology credit requirement, but currently I only have a very basic knowledge of JavaScript (with emphasize on “very”). I can probably learn more over the summer, though; my parents are both computer engineers, so we have a library’s worth of programming books. Basically, I wanted to know what I should study before entering the class. Thanks in advance!

Everything you need to get started.

Uh, AP Computer Science is about Java, not Javascript.

You said you're dad was a college admissions officer. Try to create something on your computer with java. Read some books to guide you. The more you practive and dive into complex things, the more you're likely to learn something.

Don't waste money on books, if it's Java you need to learn then http://www.sitepoint.com/ .

Google "Thinking in Java".

Thanks so much! I’ll definitely check all of that out :D

goodusername – I realize that. I’m just trying to make a point about how little I know :p

Masterus – I never said that. I did however mention that my friend’s dad was a former Harvard admissions officer.

I'm also in AP computer science, without even knowing what the class was about.

I have a very VERY basic understanding of html...and tha's about it.

But it's not too bad... so far we're just learning basic terms. And this week we're going to be making a website... For the intro chapters, at least, you need to know ROMs and RAMs and TCP/IP and binary and... all of that. It really really isn't too bad, i promise.
