Question about courses!

So I checked online what courses I managed to get for this Fall, and I got a huge shock when I realised that I somehow managed to sign up for 5 courses. I really only want 4. I don’t know how it happened. I have one CAP course, and three other courses which I chose. But also managed to get my first choice for First Year Seminar. Isn’t the FYS supposed to replace one of my normal courses? Why was I signed up for everything? Did I do something wrong with my course selection card or is this how it works and I’m supposed to drop one class when I get to Brown?

weasley, that also happened to me, so i guess we have to drop one...i guess we will know until we talk to our advisor and maybe explain that we only want to take four

that´s what i think, anyone else with experience?

yep same thing here. we can drop/switch once we talk to our advisors and shop

and interestingly enough - i was only put in 4 although i clearly requested more than 4 (knowing i would be able to drop).... i didn't get any of my FYS in the lottery, but maybe it's because my CAP course was a FYS to begin with....?? i dunno

this is pretty much normal practice. Given that pre-registration at Brown (except in courses with an enrollment limit) is meaningless, most students register for 5, then after shopping period you drop 1.

Where did you check your courses?

hey addicted, you can check it here:
<a href="http://registration.brown.edu%5B/url%5D">http://registration.brown.edu</a></p>

Woah, woah, chill out, guys!

If you tried to preregister for 5 courses, they give you 5 courses (if they can). You come here, you shop them, and then you drop one. Or two. Or three. Not a big deal. I was preregistered for 5 courses before my first semester freshman year and I think I only ended up taking one of them.

When do students find out about lottery courses, such as Art (Studio Foundation)?

My understanding is that they are holding spaces for you in the courses listed on that page. By no means does that mean that you have to take all of those classes, or even any of them (though I think they like you to stick with your CAP and FYS classes unless it's really bad)

It also doesn't mean you'll get into them... they may preregister more people than there are spaces, so you're not guaranteed a spot in any limited enrollment class.

It really doesn't mean much i think... I even got out of my cap course when I emailed the registrars office...so nothing is written in stone.
