Question about dance +

My D is considering Fordham, in part because of the Alvin Ailey BFA connection. If she managed to get accepted, it would be to the LC campus. To what extent would this limit her other academic options? She would love (at least at this point) to combine dance and bio as double majors if possible. Anyone have knowledge of dancers with similar interests?

My daughter was accepted and will be starting in the fall as part of the Ailey BFA program. As a stellar student, her goal was to combine academics and dance on a collegiate level; thus Fordham/Ailey.

In speaking with the faculty you can double major but it is extremely difficult to do. I think Biology would not be offered at LC so it would be almost impossible to combine dance with a science (offered at RH, I think?). A lists of the majors at LC is provided here: http://www.fordham.edu/academics/colleges__graduate_s/undergraduate_colleg/fordham_college_at_l/fields_of_study/

She would be limited to a major that is offered at the LC campus not because it is prohibited to take classes at RH but because of the challenging BFA program curriculum.

Read this article which talks about the BFA Program: http://www.fordham.edu/images/whats_new/magazine/summer06/pasdedeux.pdf

I'm hoping that Fordham Admission will chime in here:_)

BFA Dance has a very rigorous curriculum. It almost impossible to do a Biology major, but you can do a minor. The Biology major/minor is at LC, but it is RH. If you do Dance, you probably have to do a Natural Sciences minor, and I think that exists.

Please visit us during our Summer Visit Days this summer from July 3rd through August 24th. Questions can be answered at that time. DANCE majors are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to visit to the campus.

Thank you both for your replies. That was what I feared. Erustan, are you saying that a bio minor is possible (even though it's offered at RH only?) My d would love to visit again (she did so in the Spring) but is tied up right now with the Ailey summer intensive.

She would have to choose one; I just checked. She can do a minor offered at LC...which is Natural Sciences.
