To all ED'ers and those previously accepted to UChiago: How does the admissions committee notify of your decision, and when exactly do they do it (for regular)? Is it through a decision website, or do they send out an email? If it is through a website, do they send out an email earlier in the week about the website and when the decision will be posted? And is there a big difference between the accepted/rejected notification (i.e. something like Yale's barking dog with music playing as opposed to the unexciting rejection letter)?

Sorry for the oddly specific question; I mentioned the admissions process in my essay, and wanted to make sure that I didn't state any wrong information.

As an EA applicant, they sent me an e-mail saying "Your Admissions Decision is Now Available" or something like that in the subject.

Then they make you log onto the undergraduate admissions office's website, and then you click a link about "Your Admissions Decision."

And then a PDF opens, and it has your name on it and everything.

And that's the accepted one. I don't know the rejection one, but I think it's relatively the same.

And there was no email about the website earlier in the week.

And a little BTW: the early application program at UChicago is Early Action(EA) which is non-binding. In your post, you called earlier applicants, "ED'ers," which are part of the Early Decision program, which is a binding program that, if accepted, you will attend. ED is a program that UChicago does not have.

For EA, I got an email saying the decision was ready. After logging in, you click on the link that says "view decision letter." I was accepted so I don't really know how it works for a rejection or deferral. Best of luck!

Unless something has changed for this year, regular decision comes out only through the paper notification letter, so RD applicants won't receive any sort of electronic notification.
