question about declared major and acceptances

I'm new to CC. Penn State is my son's first choice. About five kids in his high school already have received acceptances to UP. They seem to all be into Engineering or Science majors.

My son had all his materials in since third week of Sept. Some of these kids applied after him. My question is does PSU send out acceptances in order of colleges, for example, Eberly, Smeal etc. He applied to the college of education to major in special education.

He is going crazy waiting (even though I know it is very, very early). His gpa is uw 3.2 and weighted 3.7. SAT 1200/1600 and 1730/2400. ACT 25. He knows that his stats are low. Also, he is a varsity football player and has tons of ECs but from what I am reading here Penn State does not look at those.

He also said he would start in summer.

Any comments or advice would be helpful.

It is still very early and there has been some discussion as to whether or not the acceptances we’ve been hearing about were the result of a computer error. ([Error leads to early admission - The Daily Collegian Online](http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2010/10/11/error_leads_to_early_admission.aspx)) Typically acceptances start going out in November and often to the most qualified applicants first. I would say that with your son’s 3.7 and applying to the College of Education he has a good shot, especially if he’s willing to start in the summer.

My D had her application complete one week before you, and she just received her acceptance this week. Her major is undeclared (DUS). Hopefully you’ll hear soon!
