question about deferral (ED)

So I applied to the Huntsman program @Penn ED, and got deferred... however! the letter read as such:
"After careful consideration of your application to the University of Pennsylvania for the Class of 2014, the Admissions Selection Committee has decided to defer its final decision"

o-o
So.. was my Huntsman app deferred or... was I rejected by Huntsman and deferred by Wharton?
also
I've heard that you get "one" extra chance, but for the dual programs we're given the opportunity to select another school (i.e Wharton or CAS) to be considered for... does this still hold true if we're deferred and later rejected by the dual program? (Technically.. wouldn't that be 2 extra chances?)

eggg, anyhow, thanks in advance to anyone who answers my questions and CONGRATS TO EVERYONE WHO'S GOTTEN IN!! ;D

I applied to M&T and also was deffered…so I have the same question.

Anyone have an answer!?

I applied to M&T and was deferred as well.

I’d be curious to know!

I also applied to Huntsman and was deferred (=[) My understanding of how it works is that we either got
a. deferred from Huntsman
b. rejected from Huntsman, deferred from 2nd choice (for me, Wharton)

So in the spring, if option a. was true for me, I would still be considered for Huntsman, and if they reject me, I can still be considered for Wharton.
If option b. was true, I will be considered only for Wharton.

hahhaha, yeah that’s what I was afraid of, I was hoping to get a definitive answer

Don’t feel sad!! I think of it this way. Huntsman take ~20 kids ED, about half of which are international students and half are US kids; then split it in half again for males and females. Quite honestly, I’m honored to have just been deferred and not rejected! But … more apps (cry)
Good luck with the rest of em!

I was deferred as well. What are the statistical chances of us getting in the RD round? Do we have any leg up in that round because we initially applied ED or is it all equal?

@hardworker: I honestly have no idea, rumor is about 10% ish … which is a little better than the ED admit rate of under 7%… but I haven’t seen anything concrete. No idea about the leg up either.

Can anybody answer our questions?
Dx

It is my assumption that you were all deferred from your dual-degree program, as regular decision students can still apply to these special programs. In the Spring, if you end up being rejected from your dual-degree program, you would be considered for your second school of choice. You probably won’t be notified of this, you would just be offered acceptance to that school instead of your dual-degree (if you get accepted, that is).

I got deferred from Huntsman last year and then got into Wharton regular.
Honestly, Huntsman kind of has a bad rap on campus so if you don’t get in it’s likely for the better.

hey, I just wonder if you guyz know anybody got deferred then accepted to the dual-degree programs in the Regular round?

I think that when you got deferred is basically from the Huntsman program, so now they should consider you for your second-choice school RD.

hmmm… thanks for the answers thus far. but is anyone positive?
@scribbler91: yeahhh I thought about that… I could’ve just applied to wharton and minored in a language… but there’s no use in thinking what-if xD Do you know the acceptance rate for Hunts. deferees getting into wharton? o.o

sorry xkaeze, no idea. But anyway, getting deferred from Huntsman doesn’t hurt you, if I’m any evidence.
Honestly, don’t worry about it. You’ll love wherever you end up (and I know that’s hard to hear, I was in your position last year…waiting does suck. But now think of all the possible options you have and the pluses of those other options).

Well i know someone rejected from Huntsman but accepted into Wharton…ED this year.

bump  sorry but if I were deferred from huntsman ED, I wouldn’t be considered for my single choice in ED?

You opened a 4 year old thread. Bad omen.

Just kidding. Good luck!
