Question about disadvantages of not attending Days on Campus

Hello, everyone. First of all, congratulations to those who are accepted to wonderful Columbia :) I will be one of your classmates for upcoming 05-06!

I am highly concerned about having any disadvantages of not getting to attend the Days on Campus events.

Well, I totally missed the deadline (stupid me...), but after I e-mailed the administrator, I could still attend to the Days on Campus events on the 16th.
However, I just found out I have a pretty serious family affair that I won't be able to attend to the Days on Campus tomorrow.

I know most of us are all equally experienced about this kind of matter, but I, at least still, would appreciate your opinions.
Please don't tell me, "I guess you will be the loner"!!!!!!!

i'm guessing a fair portion of the accepted students don't go so it wouldn't be a problem.

i personally can't go because i live in tokyo. it would cost way too much money to go all the way across the globe. all the internationals, i assume, are in the same boat. and even besides the internationals, i'm sure there are many people living on the west coast who would choose not to go.

so i'd say there's probably not gonna be a problem.

my daughter is also having to miss a scheduled admit day/weekend event and because it is local, she was thinking of arranging an alternate, shorter visit. She figured she could get a summary of what she missed. Maybe that would work for you? Otherwise, I don't think there would be much of a disadvantage as I am sure more people will be missing it than attending it. She was also using admit days/weekends to help her decide among some very tough choices that lay before her. It looks like you have already decided - Good For You!!! Congratulations:)

i actually justed came back from the Days on Campus. It was pretty useful, seeing the dorms, labs and such, and having lots of panels for Q & A. for me, there wasn't enough interaction with the teachers, but i guess that's not the biggest deal. there was a pretty good bus tour of the city, which i guess would be useful if you are from far away (an international). however, overall, it's not the biggest deal if you couldn't make it. a lot of the information learned could probably be found from places on the internet. the most valuable stuff was probably the opinions i received from students who weren't a part of the Days on Campus, just giving their real opinions. hope this helped.

i just got back today... you didn't miss much information...although the night tour of NYC was truly amazing, and the experience was fun

I didn't really learn anything too new about the curriculum/courses, and it'd not really a big deal staying overnight in a dorm room, so informationally, I wouldn't say you missed too much...just a fun hanging out weekend. :)

i just got back too and being from the city.. i wasnt there for the whole visiting the city like most people seemed to be in for... i was there to actually get a feel for the place.. after three days there I can call it home and actually feel like it is.... i also had the absolute pleasure of becoming friends with a couple of people while i was there so coming back in the fall ill have a good number of friends regardless........ plus i got a real look at the dorms and was able to make my picks, cuz the pictures online are so depressing.

it got sort of boring, you didn't miss much information wise (only there on sat.)

hey guys, since there weren't that many people there, i'm curious if we met and don't even know it, that would be pretty funny
