Question about Dual Enrollment

I have a hypothetical question about dual enrollment vs AP and I would totally appreciate if you guys would be kind enough to help me.

In my school, the weights go this way:
Ap: 5.0
Honors: 4.5
Standard: 4.0

I think a lot of you are familiar with that scale.

Dual enrollment is a regular 4.0... if it's a SPECIAL class, it may be 4.5..

Let's take an example:
Let's assume one student takes 7 AP's. Another student takes 6 AP's and 1 dual enrollment (regular).

Who would have the higher GPA, assuming they make A's in all of it?

Now let's say the dual enrolled class was 4.5. And the person did it both semesters.

Now who? And how much higher?

Or...

Let's take this example:

A student takes 4 AP's and 3 Honor's.
The other student takes 3 AP's, 3 Honor's, and 1 Normal Dual enrolled class (IDK yet but let's assume it's both semester).

Who would have the higher GPA?

I'm totally completely curious, that's all. Please help me, if you'd like :)

Oh and please assume they make A’s in all of it.

Isn’t this just a simple algebra problem?
Student 1 - A Student 2 - B

Standard - X X = 4
Honors - Y Y = 4.5
AP - Z Z = 5
Dual - X1 X1 = 4

Dual = Standard if not special

A = 4(Z) + 3(Y)
B = 3(Z) + 3(Y) + 1(X1)

A = 4(5) + 3(4.5)
B = 3(5) + 3(4.5) + 1(4)

A = 20 + 13.5
B = 15 + 13.5 + 4

A = 33.5
B = 32.5

Student A would.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

The one with the more AP classes would obviously have a higher GPA if it is weighted that way. I’m pretty sure that I know what this is about, and I think that you should take AP. Dual Enroll once you run out of AP’s, and colleges may weight everything differently. But,`if you want to be val, then take AP.

Don’t worry too much about your weighted GPA when you’re trying to decide between dual enrollment and AP. AP is better in a lot of cases because it’s more standardized, but usually there are more course options with dual enrollment (assuming you’re talking about taking classes on a college campus) and that makes it more worthwhile for some people.

@tacoperson123‌ Hahaha yes you’re right, that’s what it’s about. I’m gonna take AP :slight_smile:

@Teyrkis‌ Thank you for solving that like Algebra for me and putting it in a detailed way so I can make a good comparison out of it, that’s so super helpful

@tacoperson123‌ @Teyrkis‌ THANK YOU SO MUCH you guys made me feel a lot better about my status as just taking AP’s for the time being :slight_smile: Yay thank you :))))))

and thank you @halcyonheather‌ that’s really good advice.
