Question about dual majoring

Hi,
I have officially made my decision and am going to be a Bull in the fall :D.

But I was curious if anyone knows if it is possible to dual major Secondary (or Elementary) Education with a business degree (Information Technology Management is the one specifically).

I wasn't sure since both have an internship component...or is this question probably better suited for an advisor?

Thanks for any help :).

The advisors will tell you you can’t do it, but it can be done!

Thanks Lizard! :)

Hello!
It can be done, but since both are large degrees (+60 hours) it may extend your timeline a bit. Definitely meet with advisors for both programs.

Also, watch out for the credit hours limit. If you go above a certain number of credit hours, Bright Futures stops paying and the college also charges double your tuition.

I got 2 bachelor’s degrees from different USF colleges when I graduated last May after 4 years at USF. I had almost 200 credit hrs at graduation, but I still had about 6 or 8 Bright Futures eligibility hrs left over unused when I graduated. The Bright Futures rules are always changing now though so most current students probably can’t do what I did. I brought a bunch of dual enrollment credits from high school and took courses summer semesters at USF that didn’t come under Bright Futures.

What you really have to watch out for too doing 2 majors is the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) rules which can stop Federal Financial Aid if you don’t comply with SAP requirements. I had to petition USF for a variance from SAP rules to continue getting federal aid/loans after I accumulated 180 cr hrs. The dual enrollment credits completed while in high school did apply to SAP count but not Bright Futures count for me.
You can get 2 majors at USF, but you have to jump through some hoops and you need your academic advisors and the financial aid office working with you too.

As of this fall excess hours surcharge kicks in at 132 credits. After that you would be charged double tuition. There are some allowances (ap/ib/dual enrollment/double majors etc) but definately map a plan early to minimize any extra credits you can. As for the 2 majors, that is an interesting combo, what made you pick those? You know you don’t nessasarily need a bachelors in education to teach right?

^ Yeah, you need a sharp pencil to figure out what you can afford to do. I began college in summer 2008, so the excess surcharge law didn’t apply to me. I never paid any surcharges.
