I’m currently a junior, and i checked the site and it said that they don’t require students to take SAT 2 language tests but strongly encourage them. I’m Korean, and I’ve come to the US last year, finishing up to my sophomore year in Korea. However, in Korea we start foreign language studies, excluding english, at 11th grade. Even if I took a foreign language right now I would just finish only up till level I, and I know this is no level to take the SAT2. Should I just take Korean as my SAT 2 language test or should I just not take one? I know SAT 2 KOrean is wicked easy for Koreans so it’s 800 or nothing.

"Should I just take Korean as my SAT 2 language test "

yes

It might be better than nothing...but the admissions committee will know that you are Korean and possibly discount that score...

Many people get in to Duke having never taken any language SAT IIs (check the Duke ED thread), since people typically score the lowest on them if the language is their second. The testis all but useless if Korean is your first language, as they are used more for placement than anything.

I think I read this somewhere before but Duke doesn
t mind if you take your first languaage for SAT2. I think it
s one of the very few schools (if not, only) that will allow that. You could take it, I dont know how it will be perceived but it never hurts to do it. Just remember to take 2(for the New SAT) or 3 (for the old SAT) SAT2` s just in case for backup.

The recommendation Duke makes for having a foreign language SAT II is because Duke uses it for placement after admission because its Trinity college (A&S) has a foreign language requirement as part of its gen ed requirements. Thus, taking it in your native language is fine and actually encouraged because it will help you pass out of most of the foreign (non-English) language requirement. And submitting it as one of your required SAT II's for admission purposes is also fine and will not be a disadvantage unless for some reason you actually do bad on the test. And Duke is only one among many that allow an SAT II in your native language to qualify as one of the required SAT II tests for admission, e.g., all UC's allow that.
