Question about Early Action/Reg Decision!

I visited UNC today (loved it). The admissions counselor was explaining how people could either apply for first deadline (EA) or second deadline (RD).

Do you think people have more of an advantage if they apply EA?

The counselor said you could also apply RD if your grades improve a lot senior year, since you're required to send your current senior grades for RD... I'm OOS and UNC is my top choice, so I would really like to apply EA...

you were there today too? haha so was i! i didn’t go on a tour or anything, though. where are you from?

anyway - i don’t know if there are any specific statistics released about EA vs RD. i think you probably have a better chance going into it EA, and i’m pretty sure that’s what the admissions counselor said when i took the tour a couple months back. i don’t know, i just know they really encourage you to apply EA, unless you NEED the senior year grades. i know i’m applying EA, i would like to be able to relax a little second semester (:

I’m from Maryland. :)

oh, that’s cool (: how’d you like chapel hill? i’m lucky enough to live 45 minutes away, so i think i’ve been there 3 times in the past two weeks? haha.

I really liked it! I can see myself living there. Everything just felt so cozy and warm and comfortable. Although after the tour and information session, we got lost twice (finding the Old Well, going back to Jackson Hall where we parked) haha. I really like that a lot of restaraunts are in close proximity within the college. UNC is a nice balance of what I’m looking for in college. :)

Applying early gives you a big advantage for some colleges like Duke… can’t remember about UNC… but it’s not a binding contract so definitely do EA for UNC…

I’m from maryland too

Alright I’m definitely applying EA then. :)

the first time on campus, it’s a little confusing getting around - but after 3 visits, i pretty much know my way around north campus. south campus is another story, though…but i’ve only been down there once. chapel hill is a great place! the only problem is, if i go to carolina, i have a feeling i’m not going to want to leave chapel hill (:

where in maryland are you from?

@HHS310: I’m from Prince George’s County… it’s in central Maryland I think… What about you?

@heyitslauriebeth: Yeah we never went on South Campus either… heard it’s a long walk though! And I know how you feel about CH… I didn’t want to leave! :)

i’m from baltimore county, and my school district is as far north as you can get in MD

Oh cool cool.

Apply EA. Even if it doesn’t give you an advantage, I remember how thrilled (and relieved) I was to have my acceptance letter in January as opposed to March.
