I am trying to figure out if I could apply to William and Mary early decision and UVA early action? I know early decision is binding but I can't figure out if it is allowed for me to do both since early action isn't binding. I would mostly like to apply to UVA early action as a backup in case I am deferred from W&M early decision for some reason. Thank you!

Rules for W&M ED are the exactly the same as every other college.

One ED choice per academic year.

Anything else. … any other type … any … is ok.

My daughter applied to both. When she was accepted ED at W&M she withdrew her application to UVa (her second choice )

As long as you apply under Early Decision to only one institution, you’re fine but check each school to be sure you’re not violating its policies. Applying ED to W&M and EA to UVA is fine as long as you withdraw your EA application from UVA should you be admitted to W&M.
