Question about Early Decision

I know that Early Decision apps are binding, however, what if you do not recieve enough finacial aid upon acceptance from ED…can you still accept acceptance into other colleges and deny acceptance to the ED school? i just need some clarification…

You need to check with the admissions or financial aid office at the specific school.

However, at the school my daughter applied to, they will release you from an ED commitment for financial reasons.

It works like this:

They send your financial aid package with your acceptance. If you can't live with it, you contact the financial aid office and talk it over. Maybe they can adjust the package. If they can't and the cost is prohibitive, they will release you from the ED commitment so that you can pursue less expensive schools such as your state university.

However, I would not apply to a school ED unless you have a good faith expectation of being able to attend with a legitimate EFC-based aid package. My daughter's school says that it is extremely rare that someone has to be released for financial reasons.

IMO, if maximizing financial aid is the goal, then the strategy has to be dropping down a peg or two or three on the selectivity scale and playing a merit-aid game. That generally means being above the 75th to 90th percentile of applicants for the schools you are applying to.
