Question about early/ regular decision

I'm going to apply for early decision to SUNY university at buffalo but lets say i don't make it, how do i apply for the regular decision using the common app?

can i apply for both at the same time, or do i have to wait for the early decision response and if i don't make it, do I apply for the regular decision after?

also another question, the deadline for ED at university at buffalo is Nov. 1, so if i take the ACT in october, it'll take more than a month to finish grading which is past the ED deadline, does this mean i have to send in a past score? can i send the october ACT score later?

I believe that the way it works is that you can only apply one way to the school (ED,EA, or RD). If you apply ED the school with either accept you, deny you, and if denied, might pass you through to the RD applicant pool. Each school is different, but this is the general way they do things.

three possibilities with ED:
Accepted: get in to said college
Deferred: denied ED but you are put back into the RD pool so you have another shot
Rejection: denied ED and cannot apply to said college again this year; pretty much you will not be able to get into said college this year

I’ll add to MrBond’s correct summary by saying that under no circumstance would you apply both ED and RD in the same application season to a single school. One your ED decision is reviewed and acted upon with an acceptance, denial or deferral to the RD round, that is all you need to do for consideration by that school for the year. You may, however, provide supplemental information if your application is deferred to the RD round. This might include improved test scores, mid-year grades, additional recommendations, awards or honors, etc. Once your application has been submitted, you don’t supplement through the common app website. Instead you or your counselor or recommender would submit the supplemental information directly to the school by email or snail mail.

You can only submit the application once to each school on CommonApp. So you choose whether to apply ED or RD. Check with the school’s admission website to see which is the last test date they will consider for the ED. Usually, the October test is fine for November 1 deadline for most schools even the scores will come in a few days late, but you better check it out. If possible, I would avoid the last test date before application deadline because of potential score delay or withholding.

What’s the chance of complete rejection
After reading this, ED makes me kind of scared because I’m not ready with my test scores
Should I just send in my application during regular decision?

Also is there a higher acceptance rate if you apply Ed instead of rd, and what’s the acceptance rate for rd

bump…

Last year about 66% of ED applicants were accepted (319 out of 480). The RD acceptance rate was about 57%.

@niceday, which school are out talking about?

^Those stats are for the only school to which your questions thus far have related, SUNY University at Buffalo.
