Question about early/regular decision?

Cornell offers early decision and regular decision.
i dont want to be binded to that college
(although it's a great school!), so I decided to
apply regular. is there any benefit of applying early then?
(not for early decision, but around oct-dec for regular)
i am applying early action/rolling to other colleges.

and also is Cornell really competitive if applied regular
compared to early?

THANKs

If you are applying regular decision, the only benefit to getting your application in early is that you'll be done with your applications early. You also say "oct-dec" - you definitely need to have your application into Cornell in December, since the due date is January 1. You really don't want to be one of those kids posting "Does January 1 mean by 11:59 PM on January 1?" or "ACK! The server went down and I can't send my application to Cornell until January 2!" (Search these boards, you'll see those threads.)

Cornell is really competitive no matter when you apply.

aight i see there's no benefit of sending in stuff early for regular
not just for cornell. thanks
