Question about EC....

All right, lets say you do track for 9, 10, 11. Track is a spring season sport. On the common app, would we just fill out 9,10,11 or 9,10,11, 12 if we intend to continue with the activity during senior year. That also leads to another question. I’m not fast enough to be a varsity runner, but I’m very committed, which means that I’m going to be a team captain in the spring [all four year runners are always made captain]… Should I list that I’m the team captain or not, since technically i wasn’t a captain for 9,10,11… Help please? The reason i’m asking is because i won’t be playing the sport at the time of application deadline.

Yes, include 12. If you have been named captain (regardless of reason), you should also tell them that. You can say “Captain (12)” in the comments on the activity, and they will know what you mean.

All right, thanks. So even if its a spring sport, I should still put 12? Even if by the time I send out applications, the season won;t have started? It’s not like I’m great or anything but it something I invested alot of time into and I would hate to leave it off, especially since it’s a captain position…

Yes, as long as you plan to do it for sure, list it. The colleges get it. And as long as you have been officially named captain, put that on for sure, too.

Agreed, as long as you expect to run track in the spring it is perfectly appropriate to include it on your application (and include team captain for 12th grade as well).
