Hi guys, my major is Economics and I want to transfer to UCLA / UCSD next year.

My question is: Can I use my Micro and Macro Economics courses (Econ 1 & 2) on BOTH lower division major requirements AND "IGETC Area 4 (Social Science) requirements" ??

My counselor told me that I have to take another 3 social courses (Igetc Area 4) besides 2 Economics....I don't know if it is true or not, but I think I only need one more social science class to go (I have finished 2 Economics courses which listed in IGETC Area 4) ..

It's up to your CC to certify you for IGETC. My counselors are somewhat...lacking in experience so I suggest going to the district if you believe your adviser is wrong and can prove it. Take a look at your school catalog and see if they give you more details about the use of AP credit.

A course can be used for both the IGETC area requirements and the major requirements there are no restrictions against this. However, you cannot apply a course for more than one area under IGETC. For example, say there is a course that is under area 3 and area 4. You can only use that course for either area 3 or area 4. IGETC is separate from your major, just get it certified. It should not matter in any way if that course applies for both your major pre-req and IGETC. In turn this should not in any way affect you.
