I just recently published a short story on a small, web-based literary magazine. I see it as a huge accomplishment, but does that also look impressive to adcoms? Is it enough to merit a mention on an application?

Congratulations on your accomplishement. Anyways, what’s the magazine? It will definitely help your chances, especially if you are going into english.

And just out of curiosity, did you get paid?

I’m going to go into Filmmaking, but plan to pursue a minor/double major in creative writing.

I didn’t get paid, but I got two free copies of the magazine. I’d prefer not to name the magazine, sorry.

Thank you!

Was it a writing contest? Because that could go under awards.
I don’t really know where you’d put publishing under, unless you get a few more things published and then could list it under ECs.

Congratulations! Put it under ECs: “creative writing (including xx number of articles published in xxxxx on-line magazine)”
