Hey I just have a quick question. In terms of extracurricular activities, what do the prestigious universities want. Sports extracurricular s or academic extracurriculars or a balance of both? My prestigious, I dont mean the Harvards or Yales but I mean schools like UC Berkeley, NYU Stern etc. Thanks.
They want you to be involved in things you are passionate about and they prefer if you get some leadership experience. Unless you are good enough to be a recruited athlete, it doesn’t matter much what you do
They don’t care what you do as long as you do it well - meaning you bring some focus and energy to it, have an impact, make a contribution, learn something. So rather than signing up for lots of activities that you aren’t very engaged in, you’d do best to pick 2-5 things and make the most of your engagement. Remember too that leadership means taking ownership for something and having an impact, not getting a title like VP or Treasurer. This isn’t a video came where you want to collect points in the form of memberships and titles.
And no, they don’t care if you do a sport or not. They don’t care if you do academic ECs or not. Just do something you like and might want to share with others when you get to campus.
I’ve played 3 sports through out high school, one per season (you can only play one per season)
