Question about EC's

I'm going to be a sophomore, and although I did a few clubs last year (science team, math team, newspaper, etc.) I'd like to start doing a few other clubs since I had too much free time.

However, our school only has clubs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the same time block (50 minutes right after school).

Can somebody give me some advice on how to do more clubs without cutting down on my level of involvement? I don't want to be just an occasional visitor, but be able to participate fully in all the events the clubs run.

Thank you! ^_^

try clubs outside of school like boy scouts, civil air patrol, community service.

You're a sophmore with time. I'm a Freshmen and I'm very busy every night. I get home sometimes at 3:00, 5:00 or 8:00. My classes give homework every night as well.

Jie, try a bunch of clubs first time and then cut them to 2-3 that you liked.
Masterus, how does your response answer the question?

You know what Masterus? Thank you so much for sharing that--I'm sure you really helped jieyoon out with that.

Jieyoon, I think chances idea's really good. Or maybe start your own club?

Don't quit any of your old clubs and find a new activity with a higher level of time commitment.

Lots and lots of low-commitment ECs = Bad

Several high-commitment ECs = Good

I had the same problem. It really depends on what times the meetings start and end. Band starts at 4, but ends at 7, so I just go to debate or S.A.V.E. (their meetings are on different days) first b/c their meetings usually end at 4:30/5, then I just go to band from there. If you explain that you have other commitments too, they usually undertstand.

The point is how aren't you busy?

Well, my school finishes at 2:30, all clubs finish at 3:30, I get home at 4, go to math school/flute practice/orchestras/taekwondo until 6 to 7-ish, finish hw, and I still have a few hours left that I feel like I could be doing something with.

So 13ueflame, unfortunately all the meetings start and end at the same exact time and aren't extremely long, but would you say that perhaps visiting in on 2 or so clubs for...say...20-30 minutes would be alright?

Thank you

masterus- the point is your not helping :)

You don't necessarily have to be involved in a few dozen clubs in order to be busy. Being deeply involved in a few often will take up enough of one's time. Visiting each club for 20 minute spans sounds as if you just want to write the clubs down for college.

P.S. Masterus, you're supposed to suggest advice, not talk about how busy you are (no one cares)

LOL. yeah masterus no one cares.

OP, I suggest participating in service projects outside of school. But even after you finish your homework, wouldnt that be like 8pm anyway if you finish all your ECs at 6-7ish?
But if you really feel the need to do something after 6-7pm, you could always volunteer at places, or take up a teaching job (soccer, tennis, swimming, tutoring, etc..) as they only take up about 1-1.5hrs. I lead a 5-7 y/o Girlguides Pippens unit as well as 8-10y/o Brownies unit, and they're really fun (if you like little kids). Girl Guides (10-14 y/o) usually run in the early evenings so maybe you'd like to try leading young teenage girls into mature women? lol

"too much free time"?

God, I wish I was you.

you could try getting a job.

work experience is good for both the wallet and teh college app. Especially teh wallet. Oh how I love having money.

I have an idea.

Why don't you just work harder at what you do?

take quality over quantity...do something outside of school...take up dance or something...take classes...get your pilot's license
