So my school doesn't have a lot of recognition for good academic achievement. We don't have a true "honor roll," and nobody in my school has heard of language honor societies or the Harvard Book Award. So my question is do colleges know that some schools don't offer this or do they kind of expect some academic awards other than purely grades?

Bump. Come on- someone has to know.

In school academic awards don't matter to the top colleges that do factor things like awards into admission. That's because the majority of the applicants to top colleges would qualify for in school awards if their schools offered them.

colleges consider the stuff available through your school by comparing you with other students and through your guidance counselor, but this doesn't mean you can't do stuff outside of school as well
