One of my daughters was deferred ED from her dream school but today we received a preliminary financial aid decision. I can call the school tomorrow but is that normal? I thought colleges only sent preliminary financial aid decisions to accepted students? (It just makes her want to cry more; it's an ideal package.)

Oh, and it says she has to sign it to accept it-- pending receipt fo the 2007 info and next year's attendance. I'm wondering whether she should sign it and mail it in, in the off-chance that she actually gets accepted in April?

Maybe an excuse to call the admissions office and say how much she wants to get in now that she has the fabulous FA? Sorry she is deferred; I was deferred over 20 years ago and remember the angst well! (I did get into a much better college in April!)

I agree a call is in order. It is not, as far as I've ever heard, the norm to send out a FA offer to a student who has not been accepted. Prhasing it like Muffy says seems pretty clever, too.
