question about ED?

ok so if i apply to a college ED, can i apply to another college RD the same day or even before? and how about after? thanks

Basically, in short, you can apply RD anywhere even if you submit the application on the same day. When you submit isn’t as important as the type of admission you’re applying for (ED vs RD). If you do apply ED, work on your essays for your RD schools (I made that mistake and my winter break sucked!). And if you’re lucky enough to get into the school you applied to ED, you will just call your RD schools and withdraw your application. No biggie.

Exactly. You can send FIFTY RD applications along with your ED application. If the ED school accepts you, you withdraw your others. Most people who apply ED have other apps submitted or waiting in the wings.

Furthermore, it is advisable to do other apps in addition to your ED app - these are generally known as safety schools. So, a typical strategy is to apply ED to your first choice school in November, but also submit a few EA or rolling apps as well. That way - if you get bad news from the ED school in December, hopefully one of more of your EA/rolling apps is an accept and you won’t feel as bad. You can then still apply to a few RD schools as well in time for their January or February deadlines to add to your possible acceptances. It is much better to do this than to be deferred or rejected at your ED school on December 15th and be in a panic because you have not done any other apps yet - trust me on this one - I speak from personal experience with DS!

You can apply ED and also to as many other schools as you want. Personally, I wouldn’t limit my “other schools” as safeties because you honestly never know where you will and will not get in. I applied to 8 schools along with my ED. The ED was a reach, as were 5 of the others. I was rejected my ED, but got into 4 of my other reaches, so it didn’t hurt as much!
If you do get in to your ED, then I believe you must withdraw all of your other applications
