I have heard a lot about applying early to get an audition date, but I am curious about how that might work with selecting ED2 as an application option. My child wants to apply to a bunch of prescreen schools, but if by November the results are not amazing, may want to apply ED2 to a school. But in order to do that and still get an audition date did the choice need to have been made in October? Can you switch your application from regular to ED2 or is ED2 not really an option unless you are 100% sure now?
Argh. So this is tricky. I am guessing you have a kid who is torn between academics and arts? So the ED2 school would be a highly desired academic admit? What exactly are you extecting to hear by November? Passing prescreens really isn’t a good way to forecast what will happen with BFA admissions decisions.
Yes, the ED2 is a great academic and arts fit (both) but does require an audition to be scheduled. I am wondering if you can say you are seeking regular admission and change to ED2 at a later date. If the student does not pass prescreens at the schools that are both academic and arts fit, they may consider trying for an ED2 admit.
I think it would work better to apply ED2 to the “good fit” and then, if in November you feel like she can’t or shouldn’t commit to the school as an ED2 applicant, let the school know she wants to be moved to RD. As long as you tell them that before the ED2 deadline they should be fine with it as you’re really moving the application from one applicant pool to a later pool.
It’s a little hard because I don’t know what school you’re talking about with the pre-screens. You might get better advice here if you were little more concrete or you could ask your question on the MT sub-forum for the school. Schools are very different in how they handle BFA vs. BA applicants so my generic advice is probably not worth much!
