I just received a letter that says I’m on track. I guess I wasn’t in the top 4% or I would have actually received a letter or letters from specific UCs encouraging me to apply, right? Does anyone know what this means for me? Do I still have a chance, and if so, when will I know more? Thanks.

Here is the link to the ELC Website. It should answer all the questions you have. [Student Eligibility](http://www.ucop.edu/sas/elc/eligibilityinfo.html)

My son was designated ELC last year. He received a letter telling him that and giving him a special number to put on his applications. Eventually he received letters from the campuses where his acceptance was guaranteed (UCSB, UCI, UCD, UC Merced, and UCR).

I think this is you… This is from the ELC Website:

Students who are on track to statewide eligibility: These students are on track to obtain statewide eligibility to the University of California. They have a minimum UC-calculated GPA of 3.0, have completed a specific pattern of at least 11 academic courses and rank below the top 4 percent but within the top 12.5 percent of their high school class as determined by UC. Statewide eligibility and ELC eligibility have exactly the same guarantee: admission to the University, although not necessarily to the campus or major of choice. These students are some of the top students in the state, and the University strongly encourages these students to take a rigorous curriculum in the senior year, take all required tests and submit an application to the University of California.

My junior son just received his ELC letter and as with previous poster’s child, they are given a number to plug into the UC app but there is no mentioned of which colleges are guaranteeing admittance.

I believe the guaranteed schools this year are Santa Barbara, Davis, Irvine (certain majors excluded), Merced and Riverside. See http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/resources/materials/CC_2010/cc10_frosh_matrix_web_final.pdf
(see first column on pages 3 and 4). I know Davis is for sure – a friend whose son received the letter today called Davis admissions and confirmed this with them.

I got an email from ucsb admissions stating they were ELC guaranteed as well. By the way curious how a junior gets an ELC letter (posting from dad1518). They only review rising seniors in this process.

^^^My mistake. Son is a Sr. I guess it’s hard seeing him grow up so fast. Other parents told me it would happen, that they literally grow up in front of your eyes!

^^^ Hahahaha… Oh I can relate to that! Enjoy senior year. It flies by!
