<p>My son received this email. From reading stuff in this forum, I thought he would have to be interviewed first before they would even consider him. Is the approval of the Dean just a formality or is this just a rope you in type thing?</p>
<p>Dear, ____</p>
<p>" I am delighted to tell you that the MBB-graduate admissions committee
voted today to recommend your admission to the graduate program in
Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale, beginning in the
academic year 2007-08. Please note, this message does not constitute
an official offer, which can only be extended by the Dean of the
Graduate School. Based on previous years, we expect the Dean to make
his final decision on your acceptance shortly, and to send an official
offer of admission, if applicable. The Deanʼs letter will detail your
financial support including stipend as well as full tuition, and health
insurance throughout the time you are a Ph.D. student in good standing
at Yale. The stipend level for 2007-08 is not confirmed at this time,
but we expect an increase over the 2006-07 stipend, which was $27,000.</p>
<p>Hoping that the Graduate School will follow our recommendation, we
invite you to visit us to meet with faculty members and students in
MB&B and to tour our research facilities first-hand. This event will
take place from February 1st - February 4th. The main event will be on
Friday, February 2 where you will have an opportunity to meet
prospective classmates and to talk to faculty and students. Since we
already made up our minds about you, this is a unique opportunity for
you to find out what MBB is all about. We hope that you will be able to
come to New Haven and spend that day at Yale. On Saturday, February 3,
our graduate students would like you to be their guests in some
activities designed to introduce you to the town of New Haven, and we
hope you will be able to participate in this extra day. The visit to
Yale and New Haven will, of course, be at our expense.</p>
<p>Please let us know as soon as possible whether you will be able to join
us for our visiting day."</p>
