Does anyone know if engineering applications are sent to a different pile than those who apply to say, the liberal arts school? And if they are, does anyone know about how many applications are sent and how many are accepted?

I don’t know if they go into a separate pile but it is a different review process from the academic side (I know this from last year when my son, who is now a BSE freshman, applied). I don’t think they have hard and fast numbers about how many engineering applicants they accept since you can switch from AB to BSE or vice versa. This year’s freshman engineering class is the largest in Princeton’s history.

I do know that they will review the applicant’s physics and math background in considering their application. This is to ensure success in the program. My son who had 2 senior physics courses, 3 grade 12 maths and an AP Calculus is finding the program extremely difficult, and he is in the general track for engineering (not the more challenging EMP).

While very challenging, Princeton’s undergraduate engineering program is certainly worth pursuing.
