Question about Engineering

When the applications for the CoE are processed, do they break it down into majors such as a different pile for Comp. Eng. and General Eng. or do they look at it as a whole? Just wondering because I heard CE is very hard to get into compared to GE.

I think they look it as a whole, but then again, I'm not sure. I have heard that some Engineering programs are harder to get into. I don't know if you can have a section in the application where you can list your 1st and 2nd choice majors. For me, I didn't care. It was EE or nothing. But I did click on this box that said that if I didn't get into Eng, then I would be placed into LAS.

So, to answer your question, Yes, some programs are harder to get into. Don't worry about it too much. Focus on your classes and tests. Make sure you're within the range for Eng. Best of luck! :)

They review on the chosen major level. If not admitted to that, they may consider whether they might offer you an alternative major in engineering if there are openings for other majors. And yes, in the past CE has been somewhat more difficult to get into than some others including GE. Note though you cannot assume that will happen each year because one of the driving factors is the number of applicants for any particular major and applications to CE and CS have actually fallen in last couple years, apparently a reaction by students to news reports about companies outsourcing to foreign countries.
