Hey everyone!

if you had poor grades junior year in high school, should you use the supplemental essay to explain your poor grades or can you ignore addressing the issue altogether and write about something else that reflects your personality?

your thoughts...

I addressed something similar in the additional info section. I would save that supplemental essay to really show who you are as a person. Good luck!

Depends on WHY your grades tanked and by how much. If it's due to illness or family crisis, this might be best addressed by your GC. DS's GC recommended that he not deal with grades at all (why go on the defensive?) and just put himself out there. He spent his essays talking about things that were important to him.

For other folks who might have the same question -- these "blips" are examples of things that are worth discussing with your GC -- long before December 30th. Our overworked public school GC was a great resource to us regarding issues like this.

thank you for replying, you guys.

The Penn rep told me to address it in an additional letter even though my guidance counselor would mention it.
