Hello all.

I decided to start writing essays for the common app, as well as other schools, today, since I'm mostly free, and I had some questions about what is okay to write about, and what isn't.

I wanted to write about my experience in building my first computer. Yes, I know, I'm pre-med, I should write about something that works with that interest, but I really feel like I could write passionately about this topic. My question is, which topic would it fit in? Could I write about the intricacies in building it, and all the different parts, tying it into how the all are unique and work together, and make the topic about question #5, or write about a topic of my choice? I don't really know how building a computer would tie into a topic of my choice, because I don't really know how the topic should start out.

I would also like to say that I am applying for Washington University, Stanford, Vanderbilt, University of Chicago, and Dartmouth, so it's probably going to be tough getting in. I go to an Academy of Math and Science, where I stay at a university in my state and take only college classes, so maybe I could write about that too.

I would appreciate any feedback about this!
