<p>How exactly is the essay scored? Isn't it entirely subjective except for spelling, grammar, and structure?</p>
<p>I think essay scoring in general is pretty subjective. I mean, if the scorer loves your essay, you’ll get a six even with grammar errors. If he completely hates it (eg he is raging against your unenlightened views), then you’ll get a lesser score even with perfect mechanics and superior style.</p>
