Question about essays in general?

I was wondering if all of your college essays (supplement and common app) have to specifically reflect your personal interests, or your intended major. For example, if I wanted to become a doctor and am taking the pre-med track, does this is need to be shown in the essays? Would it be bad if I didn't show my interests in that area in my essays?

Thanks in advance. :)

No, the essays don’t have to reflect your interests, academic or otherwise. They should, however, reflect who you are as a person. The best ones show a side to your personality that isn’t evident from the other parts of your application. There are several good books on college essays out there. If you’re just starting the process, the one by Bauld is excellent.
