My question regarding extracurriculars is: do clubs count as volunteer work? Right now I’m a freshman in high school who is volunteering shelving books at the library. I have about 19 hours in total so far and have been volunteering since August 2017. Next year I am thinking about joining some clubs, preferably the Engineering and Chess Club. Would I be able to place this on my application as volunteer work or is there a separate place to put activities/sports/clubs in?
I think it counts as an activity
So everything basically counts as an “activity,” am I right? @fretnot
Anyone else?
Most applications lump all ECs in the same sections - sports, work, volunteering, music, etc. There is no need to overthink this.
Thank you. Another question however; do you need volunteer hours for participating in clubs or is it only for actual volunteer work that you place hours? @skieurope
For the most part, participating in clubs is not volunteer work. The exception would be, as an example, NHS, which usually requires volunteer hours.
Clubs would still be a good thing to put on my app however right? @skieurope
Any EC is good to put on an application; unless one is a recruited athlete, colleges really show no preference on the type of EC.
Thanks again @skieurope
