Question about F-1 Visa and Green Card

If I came into the US as an international student on a F-1 Visa, it would be impossible for me to obtain a green card at this time. Am I correct? I would have to have an immediate family sponsor me, an employer sponsor me or marry a US citizen right?

My question is, if I wanted to live in the United States, what would I have to do to go there as an international student and chance asap? Some facts that might prove relevant.

-I am going into a science major possibly going onto medical school (if I make it).
-When I live in the United States, I will be a missionary also (I'm part of a missionary organization at this point in time. My parents were also missionaries in Canada).

You are correct, you will not get a Green Card unless you have a relative or spouse sponsor you. Pretty much forget employers–you would need to have someone truly exceptional fr one to try, and even then it’s literally a lottery.

Marriage is by far the fastest route, it can take many years for another type of relative to bring you in.

Also note, it’s incredibly hard for non Americans to get into US med schools.

“I’m part of a missionary organization at this point in time.”

Depending on your specific responsibilities, you may qualify for an R visa. [Temporary Religious Workers](404 - Page Not Found)

Have your organization investigate whether this would work for you. Please note that the R visa has time limits for years working in the US at one stretch.

I will be a missionary during my undergraduate years. As in I will be participating in mission trips, and conferences and the like. Does that mean that I can obtain an R visa right now if the organization and I qualify for all the requirements? or no.

I’ve no idea. Your organization’s legal staff would need to look into it. Perhaps it is a workable option for after you complete your education.
