Hi everyone!

I was completing the CSS (as someone said, a stab in the back for intl students) and I would like to explain my situation.
My dad died 18 years ago, my mother is unemployed but she has my dad's pension (he was an Airforce pilot, so dying, State gives my mom a sum of money monthly).

What do I have to answer to

"Enter the wages, salaries, commissions, and tips your parents received during their country's most recent tax year".

I guess 0, since she is unemployed.

and to

"Enter the amount your parents received from pension, annuity, or retirement benefits during their country's most recent tax year. "

I guess the monthly amount, x 12 months.

Am I right?

Last question: do I need to write 0 or just leave it blank?

See AlmaIlaria. I have also complete my CSS profile. Not all colleges need it though. Firstly, yes you have to put zero there. But there is also a blank which ask you about how much the family gets from pension. Check that out. And there is a also an explaination box at the end. You can explain all your difficult circumstances there…

You are perfectly right, put zero there.
All the Best.

There is a form called" Non tax filing certificate of parent". Check this out from the colleges to which you are applying. This will prove that your mom has not paid any income tax what so ever in the recent year. Keep an eye on this. I’m not sure about the name of the certificate, so check it out.

Thank you so much! But I am not an American citizen, so I do not know if this certificate is ok for me…

Neither am I. Any way you need to fill in the Internatiion Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) form. You need to fill up the certificate of Finances form too.
Please tell me the name of the college where you want to send the CSS. Some require only the ISFAA from the international candidates. NO CSS profile. So better if you check out from the college website!

All the Best

I am filling in also the ISFAA and the COF, but some colleges require also (or just) the CSS Profile.

I’m sending it to:

Harvard
Yale
Cornell
Stanford
